Why a PDF overlay is not redaction
Drawing a rectangle over text in a PDF can leave the underlying text selectable or extractable. A flattened screenshot does not retain the original PDF text layer, though OCR may add searchable text later. Wolf PDF applies redaction to the underlying text and image content in marked PDF regions; review the exported result rather than relying on how a black box looks.

What to redact — it depends who is asking
Requirements differ between recipients and applications. Ask which identifiers, transactions, balances, and dates must remain visible before deciding what to mark. Some recipients may require an unredacted statement.

Bank layouts differ — check every page
Statement layouts vary by bank and export format. Account details may repeat in headers, footers, summaries, or transaction references. Digital PDFs can contain selectable text; scanned PDFs may contain both page images and an OCR text layer. Review all pages, including repeated details.

Before you press send
Open the downloaded file, inspect the marked regions, and search for details you intended to remove. Copy-and-paste checks can reveal remaining text, but do not prove that the whole file is sanitised: metadata, attachments, and unmarked content also need consideration. Use the sharing method agreed with the recipient.

Is the redacted text really removed, or just covered up?
Wolf PDF applies redaction to text and image content in the marked regions, rather than adding an overlay. This does not guarantee removal of repeated details, metadata, attachments, or other content elsewhere in the file. Review the exported copy before sharing.
What should I check before redacting my bank statement?
Ask the recipient whether redacted copies are accepted and which details must stay visible. Keep the original and do not change figures. Wolf PDF does not determine the requirements for your application.
Will a landlord or letting agent accept a redacted statement?
Acceptance depends on the recipient and the purpose of the request. Ask for their requirements before redacting; they may need details you planned to remove or require an unredacted copy.
Can I redact a scanned or photographed statement?
Yes. For scanned pages, redaction erases the image pixels inside each marked area. Zoom in and check each mark afterwards, since scans can have skewed or faint text near the edges of a mark.
Do I need an account or to pay?
You can try redaction without an account. Free redaction supports PDFs up to 200 pages and 50MB, with 5 standard tool runs per day shared across standard tools. Premium raises the file-size limit to 100MB; processing and service limits still apply. See Pricing for plan details.
What happens to my statement after I redact it?
Your PDF is uploaded for server-side processing in a temporary session. Session deletion is scheduled after processing, and periodic cleanup targets sessions older than 30 minutes. This is not a guaranteed deletion deadline. See Privacy for details of data handling.
